Leflore County, OK (June 23, 2019) – According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a woman was tragically killed after her car was swept off a flooded street in Leflore County early Sunday morning, June 23rd. The incident happened along Gilmore Road around 4:30 a.m.
Police stated that 64-year-old Vickie Darnell, of Poteau, was driving on the aforementioned road, north of OK-83 near Sugar Loaf Creek, when her vehicle entered a flooded creek crossing. The car was subsequently washed off the roadway and into the creek, where Darnell sadly lost her life.
Troopers were reported to have discovered her body, which was outside of the vehicle by the time of recovery. There has been no further information released at this time. However, authorities are likely investigating all of the events that led to this unfortunate incident.
