Is there currently a class-action GM lawsuit?
Often cases like these become class-action lawsuits, where a group of plaintiffs with similar claims have their claims tried together. These are national lawsuits, but McIntyre Law will represent you no matter where you live. We pride ourselves on treating all of our clients as if they were just next door. You can call Noble McIntyre, our founder, anytime to discuss your case.
Current GM recall lawsuits can happen for two reasons:
- Some owners of vehicles subject to a GM recall are bringing suit because of injuries sustained as a result of the vehicles’ defects; and
- Some GM recall lawsuits are by owners who are seeking compensation because of the reduced resale value of their vehicles.
What to Know Before You File a Lawsuit
It’s your right to file a lawsuit. But to get the suit started, you’ll need to acquire car-purchase records and medical records. You’ll have to file other legal papers, like petitions, summons, or complaints. If you haven’t done this before, your best chance of success is with a GM recall attorney who has experience with this. We have an experienced team of attorneys who are available to take your case. This will level the playing field as you take on General Motors and their high-priced attorneys.
The Statute of Limitations for GM Lawsuits
The statute of limitations for a GM recall lawsuit depends on a variety of factors related to your car and the state you live in. The time limit to file your lawsuit may depend on when you bought your car, or, if you were in an accident, when that accident happened. If you think you might have a case, the best thing you can do is contact an attorney. They can help you sort through all the issues and file your case right away, if necessary.
What is a contingency fee?
When a lawyer works on a “contingency fee” basis, they’re agreeing to accept a fixed percentage of any monetary rewards from your lawsuit to cover their legal fees. If there are no rewards from your GM recall case, you don’t pay the lawyer. We get paid if, and only if, you do.

GM Recalls: A History
GM installed faulty ignition switches in cars in the late 1990s through the mid-2000s. According to news media reports, GM engineers held meetings about the faulty switches as early as 2005, but decided not to recall them because doing so would be too expensive. The company later offered compensation related to 124 deaths in accidents caused by the faulty switches.
(February) General Motors recalls 1.6 million Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn vehicles because of faulty ignition switches.
(May) GM agrees to pay a record $35 million fine for violating federal safety laws.
(June) GM recalls additional vehicles, bringing the total number of recalled vehicles to 8.4 million.
GM recalls about 700,000 GMC and Chevy trucks because of a fault in their steering system.
