Pottawatomie County, OK (June 23, 2019) – Late Saturday night, June 22nd, police confirmed that a man from Wanette tragically lost his life following a motor vehicle accident in Pottawatomie County. The crash occurred just after 11:55 p.m. on Highway 39, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Authorities stated that 24-year-old Phillip Chase Cornelius was traveling eastbound along Highway 39 in a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck when he went off the roadway for an unclear reason. Cornelius is believed to have then overcorrected his steering, subsequently striking a ditch on the left side of the highway.
The victim was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled over three times, according to authorities. Cornelius was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he was tragically pronounced deceased. The cause of the crash is under investigation at this time.
